Recently the Australian Federal Senator Ralph Babet stood in the Australian Federal Parliament and delivered a speech where he said, "Now, I'm regularly criticized for being overtly Christian. I'm told to keep my faith private, to leave it at the door of this chamber, to speak as though God is irrelevant and truth is negotiable. But I will not do that. I just will not because I'm not merely a man with opinions. I'm a man under authority. And that authority is the authority of Christ and his church." As a devout Roman Catholic the church which he would naturally deem as the 'Christ's church' is headed up by the Pope. As Christians, we should applaud those who wish to live according to Christian morals and the teachings of the Bible. However, when a politician stands before the nation and tells you that they consider the authority of their church as more authoritative than the people whom they serve, it should cause grave concern. Moreover, when we consider the significant track record of the Roman Catholic church in using the state to persecute those who did embrace their teaching during the middle ages, it should cause the Australian public to tremble.
